The landuse key marks how an area of land is predominantly used or covered — the built-up parts of settlements, farmland, forestry, and so on.

How to tag

Draw the area as a closed way or multipolygon and tag it landuse=*. Landuse areas describe the ground; individual features on top of them keep their own tags.

Values

Value	Used for
residential	Land occupied mainly by housing.
forest	Managed woodland or forestry.
