The boundary key marks a line or area that delimits a territory. The common case is the administrative hierarchy, though other kinds of boundary use the same key.

How to tag

Boundaries are usually mapped as relations: the member ways trace the limit, and the relation carries boundary=* together with type=boundary. For administrative boundaries, add an admin_level=* to record the rank.

Values

Value Used for
administrative The limit of a governed territory.
