Usage

Inline sense labels, placed at the very start of a definition line — the italic, parenthesised context/register/domain tags Wiktionary shows before a sense. Code-first, like the other Dictionary templates.

Categorization. A known label (grammatical context, or a register/usage tag such as slang, archaic, vulgar) also files the page into a per-language category — e.g. (slang) adds Category:Pjany slang. Unlisted labels — figurative, by extension, domain tags not yet wired up — display verbatim with no category. The categorizing set lives in Module:Labels and is meant to grow as the category scheme is decided.

Labels vs. the register field. is per sense (display + categories on one definition line); the register parameter of Lb is per word (searchable Lexemes metadata). Use both: for the visible label on each sense, register= for the whole-word register you want to query across languages.
