Etymology

Extracted from the frozen collective *ciᵐbuɣ (“forest”), beside *ciᵐb (“tree”); compare *cisuɣ (“village”).

Suffix

*-uɣ

  1. forms collectives and ensembles: a mass, gathering, or landscape of the base
  2. (by extension) the place characterized by the base

Usage notes

The most freely attached of the reconstructed suffixes.

  • Proto-North-Andusian: *-uɣ
  • Proto-South-Andusian: *-u (word-final; -uɣ- medially)
  • Proto-Unterian: *-uɣi (word-final; -uɣ- medially)
